Community Thanksgiving service set for Nov. 18

— The Skaneateles Community Thanksgiving Service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Skaneateles United Methodist Church, 26 Jordan St. It is the opportunity to give thanks for things received during the past year and a time to remember those still in need.

Those attending are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for the Skaneateles Food Pantry and a monetary offering will be taken to benefit the work of Church World Service’s Hurricane Sandy Recovery Teams. Checks should be made payable to Church World Service, with the memo line marked: Sandy Relief.

A musical anthem will be provided by a combined choir consisting of members of the participating six village congregations. Gathering music will be led by the Skaneateles United Methodist Church Youth Praise Band.

The Rev. Dr. Becky Coerper, Rector at St. James’ Episcopal Church, will deliver the message, with members of the Skaneateles Clergy Association and representatives of their congregations taking part in leading the worship service.

This is a community event, open to everyone who wishes to gather together to celebrate the gifts that are so abundant in our area: clean water, a good harvest and the beauty of the Finger Lakes. It is also a chance to share our blessings with those who have suffered devastation and loss to once-in-a-lifetime storms and those who live with hunger daily.
