Skaneateles Skaneateles YMCA and Community Center has announced the availability of a number of new swimming lessons, programs and training courses to be held starting in January 2013.
General swimming lessons
The Skaneateles YMCA and Community Center offers various different levels of group swimming lessons including Parent and child lessons, preschool lessons and private lessons. The new session starts the first week of January 2013.
The YMCA will offer swimming lessons Friday and Saturday mornings, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, Monday and Wednesday afternoons and also adult lessons Thursdays at noon.
The Skaneateles YMCA will offer the Red Cross Lifeguarding Course with Waterfront Skills module from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Jan. 3 and 4, and Monday through Wednesday, Jan. 7 through 9.
The cost is $300. The class includes Lifeguarding certification, Waterfront Skills certification, CPR/AED certification, Lifeguarding text book and a CPR mask.
Water safety instructor course
The Skaneateles YMCA will offer the Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, through Friday, Jan. 11. The cost is $265.

Masters and Masters Lite swimming programs
The Skaneateles YMCA is once again offering Masters and Masters Lite swimming programs beginning in January 2013.
Masters Swimmers are swimmers who may or may not be members of United States Masters Swimming, usms.org who get together for a fantastic workout. Masters program participants must be at least 18 years-old to participate and capable of swimming a minimum of 2,000 yards, with advanced swimmers swimming 3,500 yards or more. The yardage is broken up into different sets with rest intervals in between.
The winter session for the Masters swimming program runs Jan. 2 through March 15. Sessions will be from 5:30 to 7:00 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Program cost is $100 for Skaneateles and Auburn Y members, $200 for the general public.
