Skaneateles About two dozen local and regional contractors attended the opening of construction bids for the new village hall renovation project on Wednesday, Nov. 12, to learn who is most likely to be hired for the five different contracts necessary for the work.
Four of the five contracts – general construction, plumbing, mechanical and electric – had four or more bids submitted for consideration, while the fifth contract – geothermal construction – had only two. Some of the bids differed by hundreds of thousands of dollars, others by only hundreds of dollars.
“We got good bids as far as competition,” said Mayor Marty Hubbard at the end of the bid opening meeting. “It takes all the uncertainty of the value out of it.”
All the members of the New Village Hall Steering Committee, which is overseeing the renovations to the Fennell Street fire station to turn it into the new village hall, were present for the bid opening, as was project architect Connie Brace.
