Shimer receives Spirit of American Women Award at YWCA Fundraising Event

— YWCA Syracuse & Onondaga County was proud to present their annual Spirit of American Women Award to Julie Shimer, Ph.D., chief executive officer and president of Welch Allyn, a privately-held, manufacturer of frontline medical equipment and diagnostic solutions headquartered in Skaneateles Falls.

Shimer is the first woman in the 95-year history of the company to be named president and CEO.

The ceremony took place at the YWCA’s 18th annual fundraiser which was held October 18th at the LaFayette Hills Golf & Country Club in Syracuse. Spirit of American Women is a special event that supports the women, girls and families served through YWCA programs such as Girls Incorporated, the Women’s Residence and Out of School Time programs.

The event program included testimonials from Zalveria (Vera) Scott, a participant in the YWCA’s Girls Inc. program and Torry Gleason, a resident of the YWCA’s Women’s Residence Program.
